Following a tender procedure, the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (ICGB) is awarding a Bulgarian company with the contract for a detailed design scope for GMS2 Stara Zagora that would allow capacity expansion of the IGB pipeline.

According to its preliminary technical studies, ICGB anticipates having an expanded capacity from 3 bcm/y to 5 bcm/y as of Q4 2025 for the Interconnection Point at Stara Zagora and as of Q4 2026 for the Interconnection Point at Komotini, Report informs, citing ICGB. The independent transmission system operator ICGB announced a successful completion of the non-binding phase of the incremental capacity process launched in July to assess the market interest in increasing the IGB pipeline’s total technical capacity.

The independent transmission operator ICGB received approval for the final payment from the grant funding for the implementation of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector, provided under the Operational Programme "Innovation and Competitiveness" (OPIC).

ICGB reached an agreement with the EPC contractor for the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector construction, setting off the full amount due for the delay.
