Wagner Group’s future under negotiation in Russia – UK intel
The relevant statement was made by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom on Twitter, referring to the latest Defence Intelligence update, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
On July 12, 2023, Russia’s defense ministry announced that the Wagner Group had handed over 2000 pieces of military equipment, including tanks. As of July 15, 2023, at least a small contingent of Wagner mercenaries arrived at a camp in Belarus.
Concurrently, some Wagner-associated social media groups have resumed activity, with a focus on highlighting the group’s activities in Africa.
“Based on recent announcements by Russian officials, the state is likely prepared to accept Wagner’s aspirations to maintain its extensive presence on the continent,” the UK intelligence concluded.
A reminder that earlier the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom noted that the statements made by the 58th Combined Arms Army’s General-Major Ivan Popov, who had been dismissed for voicing concerns, indicated serious disaffection many Russian officers likely harbour towards the senior military leadership.
