LG CEO William Cho opened CEO with a talk about “affectionate intelligence,” where AI will be designed and used in the service of people.
In the first press session at CES 2024, Cho said the company is focusing on “responsible AI,” with a people-centric approach where it combines AI with our data (with our permission) and our environment to create better experiences with its products.
“We are facing our responsibility,” Cho said. “We all know AI stands for artificial intelligence. At LG, we focus on affectionate intelligence” with a focus on being caring and attentive, he said. This will be part of the way LG differentiates itself, Cho said.
For LG in the home, affectionate intelligence will take the form of a cute Smart Home AI Agent.

He said LG Shield will protect your data at every stage. It will do so by keeping your data on-device in your home, said LG executive Kihung Jung.
“We commit to responsible intelligence,” Cho said. “You, the customer, should be the one in control. When you are in control, you can enjoy life to the fullest. Life’s good is our promise to create a better life for our customers even in the age of AI.”
He said LG would support open APIs and open innovation. Universal UP Kit is for everyone to use LG appliances in terms of accessibility. These solutions are made of sustainable plastic. Innovations can reduce the burdens of cleaning so people can be more relaxed at home, said LG executive Henry Kim.

LG’s view on entertainment is “sync to you, open to all.” It announced its Alpha 11 AI processor now in its seventh generation with four times the performance of its predecessor. So LG TVs and appliances can recognize you and bring a more emotional experience to viewing.
LG is celebrating the 10th anniversary of LG WebOS, which offers 3,000 channels and 5,000 on-demand series. LG is adding voice-based AI-powered games. It plans to make WebOS the most open platform, in partnership with Google. It’s bringing Google to LG TVs in 2024 in the form of built-in Chromecast. People can start a movie on a phone and cast it to watch it on the TV.

LG products will work better with Google Home devices, which can control from the TV interface. LG unveiled its LG Signature OLED T TV, a transparent TV that doesn’t obscure your views of windows or other designs behind it. LG OLED T TV can become an object of design for the home, said LG executive Frank Lee.

LG also said it views the car as a “living space on wheels.” LG showed off a car loaded with infotainment systems and telematics to present you with a realm of options inside the car. You can check in on your pets and feed them from your car. Kids can play games in the backseat or, if the kids fall asleep, create conditions with lower volume and dark screens where they can sleep longer. It has a WebOS platform that can bring you your home entertainment for a better experience on the road.
LG is creating its first EV charging factory in the state of Texas.
