Foreign Minister Katz expresses confidence in legal team after ICJ hearing

Following the conclusion of a hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Friday, Foreign Minister Israel Katz strongly criticized the allegations brought against Israel by South Africa. In his statement, Katz accused South Africa of displaying double standards and baselessly supporting claims of genocide against Israel.

"When it concerns Israel, it seems that the double standards of some of the countries of the world scream to the heavens.

"There is no basis for South Africa's claims against Israel. on the contrary. No evidence was presented for this, only evidence of a moral defensive war like no other.

"South Africa itself violates the Genocide Convention by supporting the terrorist organization Hamas which calls for the elimination of the State of Israel.

'I called the legal advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to thank him and the members of the Israeli legal team for their impressive appearance that undermined all the hypocritical arguments of South Africa, and revealed its true face as a loyal representative of a terrorist organization that inhumanely slaughtered babies, children, women and adults."

Expressing optimism about the outcome, Katz concluded, "I am hopeful that the complaint will be outright dismissed, and I have faith that justice will ultimately prevail."

At Hague, South Africa claims Israel deliberately killing civilians and children in Gaza

South Africa has presented various pieces of evidence to support its accusations, incorporating quotes from Israeli figures, ministers, deputies, and even lyrics from singers like Eyal Golan and Kobi Peretz. The trial's complete document encompasses statements by politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who drew parallels with the biblical story of Amalek, Israel's hereditary enemy. Minister Amihai Eliyahou's proposal to drop an atomic bomb on the Gaza Strip is also mentioned, along with a section addressing the "rhetoric of genocide in Israeli society," quoting Israeli singer Eyal Golan's controversial call to "wipe out Gaza and leave no one there."

The panel includes American Joan Donoghue, known for her history of delivering rulings free from political influences. German Kirill Gevorgian has expressed opinions in favor of Iran, while Lebanese judge Nawaf Salam has notably argued that the court could reverse the burden of proof.
