Israel's national carrier El Al announced it will grant at least 10,000 plane tickets to Israelis who were called up and served for at least 30 days since the beginning of the Gaza war.

The awardees will only have to pay airport taxes, meaning that the total airfare to many destinations on this special benefit will cost as low as several.

The company said the destinations where this special discount will apply are Zurich, Sofia, Vienna, Thessaloniki, Paphos, Larnaca, Budapest, Bucharest and Athens.

The 10,000 lucky soldiers (and possibly more)will be able to get the tickets starting Tuesday night for travel dates that start on May 5 this year through February 17, 2025. The company noted that for some periods, the reduced-price ticket availability might be limited.

The move will allow about 10,000 soldiers to fly to one of the participating destinations by paying airport taxes only. Still, the company also expects a relatively large number of full-fare ticket purchasers, with family members, friends, and those who will fly with those soldiers and reservists expected to purchase a high number of plane tickets to those same destinations.

Eligibility For the benefit will be done by attaching the IDF Form 3010 indicating active reserve duty or, if they are still carrying out their mandatory service as conscripted personnel – a copy of their active-duty card. After receiving the coupon code, the booking will be done on El Al's website or through travel agents.

El Al has stressed that registration will be done digitally on the El Al website only, and customer service representatives are unable to assist in issuing a coupon code.

In addition, the holders of these special tickets will receive priority in the aircraft boarding phase, and in-flight service managers will recognize their actions with a dedicated announcement at the beginning of each flight.
