Advanced Micro Devices has started shipping its AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics processing units (GPUs) for gaming enthusiasts.

The new 7900 series enables 1440p/4K gaming with features that include 16GB of GDDR6 video memory and 80 unified compute units which combine RT and AI accelerators. It also has AMD HYPR-RX, AMD FidelityFX super resolution and AMD Fluid Motion Frames.

It’s shipping around the globe today with add-in-board partners. The graphics cards start at $549. In a series of events, AMD unveiled the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the Radeon RX 7900 XT and the Radeon RX 7900 GRE.

The XTX has 96 compute units, 192 AI accelerators and 6,144 stream processors. The XT has 84 compute units, 168 AI accelerators and 5,376 stream processors. And the GRE has 80 compute units, 160 AI accelerators and 5,120 stream processors.

The GRE goes head-to-head against Nvidia’s $549 Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 with 12GB of memory. AMD said it offers 16GB of memory for the same price and can deliver 32% more frames per second on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 enables faster frame rates for games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Baldur’s Gate 3 and F1 23. AMD also has a new edition of its AMD Software Adrenaline Edition 24.1.1.

In other news, AMD and SolidRun, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance System on Module (SOM) solutions, single-board computers, and network edge solutions, announced the launch of its new Ryzen V3000 CX7 Com module.

It is configurable with the 8-core/16-thread Ryzen Embedded V3C48 processor, and it boasts AMD’s state-of-the-art 6nm Zen3 architecture with a combination of performance and power efficiency.
