Having commenced its perpetual digital broadcast on Feb. 29, the project features a radio station situated within the gallery premises, alongside a series of public programs designed to delve into the essence of prayer. Envisioned as a platform for expression through various forms of prayer – from spoken words and songs to silent meditations – RADIO AWE serves as a space for communal connection and exploration of human spirituality.
"We're placing special emphasis on inviting those whose voices are unheard during this moment of crisis, out of a larger belief in our ability to contain and hear the prayers of everyone who wishes to express their heart's desires," explains exhibition curator Bar Yerushalmi, in relation to the aftermath of the brutal Hamas attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7. "During these days of fear, hatred, violence and racism, the core value of this prayer radio station is to reconnect ourselves to our humanity. We invite the entire public to join us, record prayers and take part in the project."
Set against the backdrop of a futuristic prayer space within Schechter Gallery, RADIO AWE integrates a broadcasting station, offering visitors an immersive experience through prayer listening sessions, musical performances, and podcast broadcasts. This initiative not only fosters a meditative space but also encourages interactive participation through prayer recording and a spectrum of public events aimed at reimagining communal spirituality. Scheduled to launch with a gathering of diverse societal representatives, RADIO AWE promises a live broadcast event that symbolizes a collective step towards bridging divides and celebrating shared humanity.
