The Republican Party Conference in Milwaukee concluded its first day with the official nomination of Donald Trump as the party's candidate.
The conference opened with a moment of silence in memory of the victim who was killed in the assassination attempt on Trump earlier this week, along with a call for the recovery of the two participants who were critically injured in the shooting. "On Saturday, the devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle," said Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. "but an American lion got back up on his feet, and he roared!" he added, energizing the crowd.
During the conference, a massive joint prayer was held for the return of the Israeli hostages in Gaza "who were cruelly kidnapped and are being held against their will." Additionally, Orna and Ronen Neutra, the parents of kidnapped soldier Omer Neutra who also holds American citizenship, are scheduled to speak during the conference and call for the release of all hostages held in Gaza.

The vice-presidential candidate was also announced on the first day of the conference. J.D. Vance was picked by Trump for the role, according to the former president, after "long deliberation and thought." In an interview with Fox News, Vance stated that Trump asked him to run together "to save America."

Following the announcement, Vice President Kamala Harris declared that she would participate in the vice-presidential debate and even reached out to Vance to congratulate him on his appointment.
"He simply said, 'Look, I have to go save this country. I think you're the guy who can best help me, you can help me govern. You can help me win, you can help me in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and more," added the Republican vice-presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, billionaire and owner of the X network, Elon Musk, who announced after the assassination attempt that he would officially support Trump, declared that he would establish a fundraising network for Trump's campaign along with other tech entrepreneurs. Musk announced that he would donate $45 million each month to the former president's election campaign.
