Fishermen in Gaza's Khan Yunis area captured and killed a dolphin off the central coast, JFeed reported Sunday, drawing sharp criticism from international marine conservation experts over the treatment of the protected marine mammal.

The incident took place in waters off Al-Qarara when the dolphin became entangled in fishing nets, JFeed disclosed. While some local residents celebrated the catch as a food source, experienced fishermen immediately voiced strong opposition to the practice.

The marine mammal became entangled in fishing nets near Al-Qarara's southern shores, where fishermen claimed the capture was accidental, JFeed disclosed. However, their subsequent intention to consume the dolphin sparked immediate alarm from marine experts and local fishing communities.

The occurrence has deeply divided the community, JFeed reported, with conservation experts warning about both ethical and environmental implications. According to JFeed, local marine preservation groups have documented an increase in such unprecedented fishing practices as traditional fishing zones face new restrictions.

JFeed noted that conservation organizations are now intensifying their community education efforts while acknowledging the complex challenges facing Gaza's fishing community. These groups emphasize that dolphins play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems along the coastline.
