Nadra introduces non-chip ID card with smart features

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has announced a major upgrade to its identity card system, unveiling a new non-chip National Identity Card equipped with smart features aimed at enhancing security and accessibility at a reduced cost.

This upgraded ID card offers bilingual details in both English and Urdu, ensuring uniformity with official documents such as passports. A QR code integrated into the card enables citizens to access their digital identity via the Pak ID mobile app.

Special features have also been introduced for specific groups. Registered organ donors will receive a unique symbol on their ID cards and enjoy lifetime validity. Similarly, persons with disabilities will benefit from distinctive identification markers and lifelong validity.

Citizens can opt for the new non-chip ID card when applying for a renewal, modification, or replacement of a lost card. The fee structure for the non-chip card is as follows:

Normal Processing: PKR 400 (Delivery in 31 days)
Urgent Processing: PKR 1,150 (Delivery in 15 days)
Executive Processing: PKR 2,150 (Delivery in 9 days)
First-Time Issuance for 18-Year-Olds: Free under normal processing

In addition, Nadra has revised the 2025 fee structure for the Smart National Identity Card (Smart CNIC). The updated fees are:

Normal: PKR 750
Urgent: PKR 1,500
Executive: PKR 2,500

Applications can be submitted at Nadra registration centers or through its online portal. These initiatives reflect Nadra's ongoing commitment to digital innovation, secure identity management, and citizen convenience.
