Pakistan has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s expression of support for efforts to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, terming it a key issue with far-reaching consequences for regional and global peace.
In an official statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing position that a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir issue must align with United Nations Security Council resolutions and ensure the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
The spokesperson also acknowledged the constructive diplomatic role played by the United States—alongside other friendly nations—in facilitating the recent ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, following several days of deadly cross-border hostilities.
He emphasized Pakistan’s continued commitment to working with the US and the broader international community to advance peace, stability, and development in South Asia. He added that Islamabad looks forward to expanding its multifaceted relationship with Washington, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic collaboration.
The statement came after President Trump announced on Truth Social his intent to “substantially” increase trade with both Pakistan and India, while also expressing willingness to assist in finding a solution to the long-standing Kashmir conflict.
