Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the execution of two more Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces in the Pokrovsk sector.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, according to Ukrinform.

“According to operational data, in the morning of May 22, the Russian invaders launched an assault on the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces near the village of Udachne in Pokrovsk district, where four Ukrainian servicemen were carrying out combat missions. During the attack, representatives of the aggressor state captured two Ukrainian servicemen and then executed them unarmed in a forested area using automatic weapons. The fate of the other defenders is currently unknown,” the statement reads.

It is emphasized that the deliberate killing of prisoners of war is a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime.

Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into a war crime resulting in the death of individuals.

Investigators from the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions are currently carrying out urgent investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible for the crime.
