Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday expressed optimism over the possible release of PTI founder Imran Khan ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, calling it a long-awaited relief for party supporters.
Speaking to media in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said, “We are trying our best and hopeful that Allah will open a way,” as he reassured party workers of ongoing efforts to secure Khan’s release.
Highlighting the party’s two-year struggle since Khan’s incarceration, Gohar said, “No one can comprehend why PTI founder Imran Khan has spent two years behind bars.” He termed the concerns of party workers as genuine and called on them to remain patient and peaceful.
“We have resorted to sit-ins, protests, and raised the matter in the assemblies,” he said, emphasizing PTI’s continued use of legal and constitutional means. Gohar voiced hope that Khan’s legal cases would be heard and decided on merit, adding, “I’m hopeful his case will be fixed before Eid—and that he will be released before Eid as well.”
Meanwhile, in a separate development, it was reported that Imran Khan refused to undergo a polygraph test in connection with the May 9 riots cases. Sources said the former prime minister, who has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023, declined to participate in the process, citing the absence of his legal team.
A Lahore police investigation team led by DSP Asif Javed had arrived at Adiala Jail for the test, accompanied by officials from the Punjab Forensic Unit. However, jail staff confirmed that Khan refused to leave his cell for the procedure.
The developments come as PTI continues to press for the release of its incarcerated leader, maintaining that his detention is politically motivated.
