Gilani, Turkmenistan president, exchange views on matters of mutual interest

ISLAMABAD  -  Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Sunday called on President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow and exchanged views on matters of mutual interests besides collaboration in diverse sectors.  The chairman Senate is on an official visit to Turkmenistan alongwith a delegation of senators, said a news release received here.

Gilani also conveyed greetings from the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as his wishes for the welfare of the Turkmen people.

He said that the visit of the National Leader of Turkmenistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is remembered with pleasant feelings.

The chairman was warmly welcomed by the president of Turkmenistan while reciprocating best wishes to the leaders of Pakistan.

Expressing confidence that the visit of the chairman of the Senate will be successful, the president of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that it will stimulate the development of parliamentary relations between friendly countries.  

Both sides agreed that bilateral relations are currently successfully carried out in political, diplomatic, trade and economic, energy, transport, education, and humanitarian sectors.

The president said that, according to the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, 2025 was declared the year of Peace and Trust on the initiative of Turkmenistan, and it coincides with the 30th anniversary of our neutrality role.

He said that a number of events have been planned in this regard, and parliamentarians can participate in these activities. The president said that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of parliamentary relations between the two countries. Today, parliamentary relations help to strengthen effective cooperation between countries.  He said that parliamentary dialogue is an important part of the development of relations between the two countries.

The Parliamentary Friendship Group, which operates on a bilateral basis, provides opportunities for the exchange of experience in legislative work and the development of parliamentary diplomacy.

Talking to the media, the chairman Senate termed the meeting successful and said, “I have met with the President of Turkmenistan. Our meeting was very fruitful. I conveyed best wishes to the President of Turkmenistan and the national leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.” He said, he also conveyed the greetings from the president and PM of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.  

Responding to a question, the chairman Senate said that the activation of bilateral relations and further development were discussed the importance of bilateral visits and the agreements reached were also emphasised.

He further said that the discussion also focused on the development of several areas and exchanged ideas on several implemented and planned projects.

He observed that Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality is highly valued. This policy is an important tool for strengthening peace in the region.

He said this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan. Relations between Turkmenistan and Pakistan have become more active, Gilani said.
