  • Arsen Babayan: What happened was a punitive action, as in the case of beating Abraham Gasparyan
    Armenian News - Tert.am - 13:01 Jun 19, 2024
June 12 was really a watershed; it was at least the most brutal and unprecedented behavior I have ever seen by the police, lawyer Arsen Babayan said at a press conference. He noted that, in his opinion, it was an act of revenge against the participants of the movement. “Abraham Gasparyan was isolated and brutally beaten by about 20 red berets. This does not comply with any rules for using police force,” he said. With regard to the stun grenades that were used, Babayan noted that they were thrown without any resistance or attack. “The people there did not do anything that would give them legal reasons to take special measures. But before their adoption, people were brutally beaten,” Babayan said. According to him, the police actions started in Kirants, Tavush, when, for some reason, they stopped the cars of the march participants. “Dozens of cars remained impounded for 15–20 days. People have been arrested. Such is the state of affairs that they say that people have used violence or participated in mass unrest...

Among other acts of violence, a mention is made of the brutal beating of Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan. Numerous cases of illegal actions by “red beret” police officers have been reported, including the incident involving commentator-TV reporter Abraham Gasparyan, who was subjected to violence and degrading treatment by “red and black beret” police officers, the report says. • Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan: Abraham Gasparyan has been tortured
    Armenian News - Tert.am - 11:33 Jun 13, 2024
Abraham has been tortured. Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said this in Baghramyan Avenue, calling for the distribution of the photo showing the bloody face of Abraham Gasparyan, the director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor. “This is the reflection of the present liar and coward of Armenia: that tortured face in the bastion of democracy. I have said, and I will say again, that there are hooligans among the police—bred hooligans in the true sense of the word. And if, in general, the police do not separate themselves from them, then they are also complicit in hooliganism,” Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said.
  • Abraham Gasparyan taken to police department in blood, with clothes torn and no shoes
    Armenian News - Tert.am - 11:31 Jun 13, 2024
Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan was beaten while being detained from the Baghramyan-Demirchyan intersection. He was then taken to the Kanaker-Zeytun police department, covered in blood, with clothes torn and no shoes. They did not hospitalize him; they took his phone and did not inform him which department he was being taken to. To remind, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan spoke about Abraham Gasparyan’s detention in Baghramyan Avenue as well. “What has Abraham Gasparyan done to you that you detained him? You stole and kidnapped people. I know that Abraham was by my side, but now he is not here. I should ask lawyers to deal with this issue,” the Holy Father said.
