    Events at Stanford - 21:55 Sep 09, 2021
Date: Tuesday, October 19, 2021. 12:00 PM. Location: Hybrid event - Public via Zoom Derek Kramer explores the theme of liberatory science in Korean narratives of the atomic bombings. In doing so, his work highlights how North and South Korean conflations between science and developmentalism silenced Korean survivors of the attacks. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a constant feature of the post-liberation Korean press. During this time, the science behind the bomb acted as a marker of futurity that circulated in ways that directly commented on the nature of the postcolonial condition. For some, atomic science simply pointed to the predominance of global hegemons and demonstrated the liberatory potential of these powers. Versions of these readings are explored through an examination of the concept of “Science War” in Korean accounts of the Asia-Pacific War. Together on stage, Green and Kronos interact with the stirring cinematic imagery to craft an important record and exploration of late 20th and early 21st-century music. Transcending the typical live music and film event, this collaboration becomes a meditation on music itself—the act of listening to it closely, the experience of feeling it deeply, and the power that it has to change the world.

    Events at Stanford - 16:00 Aug 23, 2021

Despite its limited electoral impact, its leaders have played a critical role in a range of social movements, including anti-nuclear and LGBT rights campaigns. Plotting the party’s evolution in electoral politics as well as its engagement with the global green movement, this volume analyses key patterns of party change in electoral campaign appeals, organisation and its human face. The second half of the volume concentrates on explaining both the party’s electoral impact and why the party has adjusted ideologically and organisationally over time. Based on a wide range of material collected, including focus groups, interviews and political communication data, the research relies heavily on analysis of campaign ma...
