  • Pakistan and Armenia formally establish diplomatic relations: FO

    Pakistan and Armenia on Sunday formally established diplomatic relations, the Foreign Office (FO) announced in a statement. Until today, Pakistan and Armenia did not have formal diplomatic relations. The relationship was characterised by a regional geopolitical rivalry, with Pakistan supporting Azerbaijan against Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as per the Press Information Department. However, earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan had agreed to consider establishing diplomatic relations with Armenia after a phone call with counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan following a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia.     WASHINGTON: Azerbaijan and Armenia signed an initial US-brokered peace agreement during a meeting with President Donald Trump on Friday, a deal aimed at boosting economic ties between the two countries after decades of conflict, the White House said. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told reporters that Trump signed separate deals with both Armenia and Azerbaijan on energy, technology, economic cooperation, border security, infrastructure and trade. No further details were provided. The agreement includes exclusive US development rights to a strategic transit corridor through the South Caucasus, dubbed the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.” US officials said the agreement was hammered out during repeated visits to the region and would provide a basis for working toward a full normalisation between the countries.   • Unibank to Issue Subordinated Bonds for the First Time in Armenia

    Unibank announces subordinated bonds issue equal to USD 10 million. The annual coupon rate is 6.25%, the maturity of the bonds - 7 years. The coupon income will be paid quarterly.   Unibank became the first bank in Armenia to issue subordinated bonds. The minimum bond purchase amount is USD 10.000 that may be acquired at Unibank head office or its branches.  The placement of the issue is planned to be completed by February 24, 2025, after that subordinated bonds will be listed on the Armenian Stock Exchange. Unibank has been one of the most active participants in the securities market since 2016. At the AMX AWARDS 2024, the bank was recognized as the best in two nominations: “Best Equity Issuer on the Exchange” and “Best in Secondary Equity Market”. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) to the FY 2025 State and Foreign Operations (SFOPs) Appropriations Bill, which increases funding for the Republic of Armenia by $100,000,000 under the AEECA account, reports the Armenian Assembly of America. This funding will support victims from Nagorno Karabakh currently residing in Armenia, who were forced to flee their ancestral homeland amid Azerbaijan’s full-scale attack in 2023.
