  • Tump assistant commissioner freed by kidnappers after three months

     Hanif Noorzai Hanif Noorzai QUETTA: Kidnapped Assistant Commissioner of Tump tehsil Hanif Noorzai was released by his abductors on Wednesday night. Kech Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Breach confirmed the development. Mr Noorzai had been abducted by armed men on June 4 while he was travelling from Tump to Quetta with his family to celebrate Eid. His official vehicle was intercepted during the journey. The armed men allowed his family, driver and Levies guards to go, but took Mr Noorzai away at gunpoint. The banned Balochistan Liberation Front had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. According to sources, Mr Noorzai was released in Tump and later informed the authorities about his release. The assistant commissioner reached Quetta late at night on a special plane arranged by the Balochistan chief minister. Published in Dawn, September 18th, 2025

  • Family appeals for release of abducted Tump assistant commissioner

    GWADAR: The family of abducted assistant commissioner of Tump, Hanif Noorzai, has appealed to tribal elders, political leaders and influential figures to play an active role in securing his safe release. They also urged the kidnappers to respect humanitarian values, Balochi traditions and tribal norms. Speaking at a press conference in Turbat, Hanif’s brother, Guldad Noorzai, said the assistant commissioner was abducted on June 4 while he was travelling with family from Tump to celebrate Eid in Quetta. Though his family was released later, Noorzai remains in captivity. The banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) had claimed responsibility for the abduction of Hanif Noorzai.   • Tump assistant commissioner abducted from Balochistan’s Kech district

    Tump Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hanif Noorzai was abducted from Balochistan’s Kech district on Wednesday, an official told Dawn.com. According to Kech Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Barich, unidentified militants kidnapped the AC, who was posted at Tump, near the Iranian border. He said Noorzai was on his way from Quetta to Tump on Wednesday morning, but did not provide further details. Noorzai is from Quetta and has previously served as AC in different areas of the province. In September 2016, Asad Khan Tareen, son of then-Balochistan’s Minister for Local Government Sardar Mustafa Tareen — who had been kidnapped in May that year — was recovered from an area of Qila Abdulla district close to the Pak-Afghan border. Armed men kidnapped Asad Tareen in Pishin town on May 21 when he was returning from Cadet College Pishin, where he worked as a warden. He was reportedly taken across the border in Afghanistan.
