A European entity may have lost $106 million from exchange accounts, while a wallet associated with a Solana arbitrage bot may have lost another $786,000. An unidentified entity in the European Union may have lost more than $106 million from accounts at multiple cryptocurrency exchanges on Sunday, according to blockchain investigator ZachXBT. Crypto Biz: Bitcoin’s quantum threat is becoming an economic problem

Bitcoin faces mounting quantum security concerns as Ripple secures a US banking charter, USDC gains ground in Europe and VanEck adds BTC to a new ETF. The debate over quantum computing has raised serious questions about Bitcoin’s long-term security, but the economic consequences could emerge long before the technology seriously threatens the network. Muneeb Ali, founder of Bitcoin layer-2 project Stacks, believes quantum computing risks are already discouraging institutional investment, even as US spot Bitcoin ETFs have amassed more than $104 billion in net assets, according to BitBo data. He warns that BTC has only a few years to prepare for the transition to quantum-resistant security, a process that could take years given the network’s history of slow and contentious upgrades. For insti…

Crypto PAC spending before midterms possibly obscured after reported FEC hack

The FEC reported an “electronic filing system outage” on Tuesday as groups are expected to ramp up spending before the US midterm elections. The US Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing system is offline after reports of a hack, potentially obscuring expenditures by super political action committees (PACs) and other groups in the final days before the 2026 midterm elections. As of Tuesday at 7:48 pm UTC, the FEC said it was continuing to experience an “electronic filing system outage,” but was working to resolve the issue. Campaign finance data by PACs and other entities were still available for the public to view, but the system outage suggested that last-minute spending could go unreported. For example, with just six days until Election Day, FEC filings showed no expenditures from the…

Crypto could outperform AI stocks: Wall Street veteran Jordi Visser

Former Morgan Stanley and Weiss executive Jordi Visser says AI agents are boosting demand for crypto as he expands his holdings beyond Bitcoin, Ether and Solana. Cryptocurrencies could deliver a better payoff from the artificial intelligence boom than AI stocks themselves, according to Visser Labs founder Jordi Visser. Explosive gains in AI stocks are becoming harder to repeat, Visser tells Cointelegraph’s Trade Secrets. At the same time, AI agents are creating demand for crypto payments and tokenized assets. “Without AI, I don’t think crypto would be going through this bull market,” he says.

Move over memecoins: Crypto ‘meme games’ coming, bagholders and all

“Plenty will be ponzis. Plenty will get exploited. Plenty will insta die. There will be ridiculous gains, and people will get absolutely f***ing rinsed,” says Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick. AI could unleash a flood of short-lived crypto “meme games,” attracting the same speculative traders who helped push memecoins to record highs in late 2024, according to Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick. Speculative crypto games such as Wolf Game and Fishing Frenzy, where players compete for financial rewards, once took months to develop. But Warwick says AI tools have reduced the time and cost of creating similar games to just days and around $1,000. He predicts as many as 100,000 such games could launch within a year, with many designed to survive for only a few days — long enough for their c…

Crypto’s 2026 shutdown wave claims 82 projects. What went wrong?

Crypto projects are struggling to survive as falling revenues, depleted funding and security breaches force closures across DeFi, blockchain infrastructure and gaming. Crypto researcher Stacy Muur has identified 82 digital asset projects and protocols that have reportedly shut down in 2026, raising questions about the financial sustainability of businesses across decentralized finance, blockchain infrastructure and Web3 gaming. The list, published on X on Tuesday, includes Balancer, Radiant Capital, Neon EVM and Step Finance, among dozens of others. Muur described the number of closures as unlike anything she had previously witnessed. The shutdowns follow a prolonged bear market, with Bitcoin (BTC) retreating from its October 2025 record high above $126,000 to below $60,000 earlier this ye…

Crypto Biz: Wall Street closes at 4. Tokenized stocks keep trading

Tokenized stocks are drawing trading activity beyond Wall Street hours, while Bitcoin miners confront costly AI expansion and new accounting rules could benefit stablecoins. Tokenization is beginning to reshape traditional financial markets, with stocks increasingly in focus. Much of the attention has centered on the $3.3 billion in tokenized equities now onchain, according to RWA.xyz, but one of the biggest innovations may be what happens before Wall Street opens and after it closes. According to the latest industry data, more than 70% of tokenized stock trading volume on BNB Chain now occurs outside regular US market hours, with similar patterns emerging on Solana and Base. Tokenized equities allow investors to trade US stocks across time zones without waiting for Wall Street’s opening b…

Crypto Biz: Wealthy investors are buying crypto, but their advisers aren’t sold

Wealthy investors are embracing crypto faster than their advisers, while OKX attracts new funding and Strategy shifts more capital toward preferred stock buybacks. Affluent investors appear increasingly comfortable with crypto, even if their financial advisers aren’t keeping pace. A new CoinShares survey found that a majority of wealthy investors across seven major economies already own digital assets, with many planning to increase their exposure this year. The findings come as capital continues to move into crypto in other ways, even against a tougher market backdrop. Bitcoin is trying to build on its best quarter since 2017 while Treasury yields remain above 5%, and OKX has raised additional funding at a $25 billion valuation. Meanwhile, Strategy is putting more capital into its preferr…

Crypto lending rises again… but have they solved the risks?

Crypto lending has risen by 55% since July, but now has to deal with the dangers of AI assisted hacks, and risks cascading through interlinked protocols. Here’s how to stay safe. As the charts flip from red to green, crypto lending has seen a resurgence of interest after a particularly dismal second quarter. Figures from Galaxy show that $11.33 billion left the sector in Q2 — partly due to the crisis of confidence in lenders caused by the Kelp DAO hack in April that left users of the most trusted protocol, Aave, unable to access their ETH. Since the beginning of July, however, total lending value locked has gained more than 55% to sit around $56 billion today.

Crypto’s heavy backing of Republicans alienated Democrats: Cuomo

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo urged the crypto industry to balance its support for Democrats and Republicans if they want federal crypto legislation passed. The crypto industry’s heavy backing of US Republicans has alienated Democrats whose support is needed to pass federal crypto legislation, says former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Speaking in a panel with OKX CEO Star Xu at Token2049 on Tuesday, Cuomo said the industry “believed in investing heavily in the Republican Party” as a way to get the CLARITY Act passed. Crypto-focused political action committees tracked by Tech Influence Watch have spent $54.3 million supporting Republicans in the 2026 election cycle, compared with $26.2 million supporting Democrats. Another $23.2 million has been spent opposing Democrats, accordin…

Crypto must cement adoption to withstand US policy shifts: Canton CEO

Canton CEO Yuval Rooz compared blockchain adoption to Uber and Airbnb, arguing that widespread adoption could help insulate it from potential policy reversals. Digital Asset co-founder and CEO Yuval Rooz said the crypto industry should use the current regulatory environment to accelerate institutional adoption, arguing that widespread use of blockchain could make it harder for future administrations to reverse the industry’s progress. Speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, Rooz said the industry should make blockchain so widely used that whatever happens in 2028, “there is no going back.” The next US presidential election, which could bring a change in administration and regulatory priorities, is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2028. He compared the opportunity to Uber and Airbnb, where he argued both…

Crypto card access doesn’t match global demand, Tangem says

Crypto card demand can be stronger where access is harder, Tangem says, as the company expands its self-custodial payment offering through Visa. More than 40% of Tangem Pay payments come from Latin America and over 30% from the US, while physical card availability remains restricted in some markets, the Swiss crypto wallet provider told Cointelegraph. “It is not simply a question of where people want crypto cards,” Andrey Ilinskiy, head of Tangem Pay, told Cointelegraph, adding: “It is where demand, regulation, banking infrastructure and card-issuing requirements happen to line up — and today, those maps do not always overlap.” On Wednesday, Tangem announced its first physical Visa card for in-store and online purchases and ATM withdrawals, with an initial release limited to 5,000 cards.

Fairshake said it would financially back 32 House candidates who all voted in favor of the CLARITY market structure bill in 2025, as the legislation remains in limbo in the Senate. On Monday, Fairshake said that it would support 19 Republican and 13 Democratic incumbents in US House races for 2026. Crypto’s billions are back, but the premiums aren’t

Kalshi seeks a $40 billion valuation, while Blockchain.com targets an IPO and crypto treasury companies struggle to maintain their once-high valuations. Crypto companies are raising billions again, but investors are no longer handing out premiums indiscriminately. Kalshi is reportedly seeking $1 billion at a $40 billion valuation, nearly twice what it was worth in May. Meanwhile, Blockchain.com is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) at a potential $6 billion valuation, well below the $14 billion it commanded during the last crypto boom. The divide is even sharper among digital asset treasury companies, where just four of the 20 largest still trade above the value of their crypto holdings. This week’s Crypto Biz looks at where investors are still willing to pay up, where the old…
