The designation was taken pursuant to the counterterrorism sanctions authority, Executive Order 13224. Hamas has been designated in the US since October 31, 2001.

The bombing is the second attack against a Jewish target in the Netherlands this week, after an explosive device detonated at a synagogue in the center of Rotterdam on Thursday.
Four men were arrested after a bomb exploded at a Rotterdam synagogue. Ashab Al Yamin, a Shi'ite terror group, claimed responsibility for the attack. No injuries reported.

For months, people in the US have dressed that slogan up as activism, outrage, or edgy protest. In West Bloomfield, Michigan, on Thursday, it looked like what Jews knew it meant all along: a threat.
