Snipers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stopped the advance of a Russian unit that was going to attack a stronghold of Ukrainian defenders in a direction near Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
Soldiers of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, together with the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, repelled an enemy assault in the Bakhmut area and captured the enemy's positions in a counterattack. During the battle, the Ukrainian defenders killed nine Russian soldiers and wounded about 20 invaders.
Almost 90% of residents of the Bakhmut community in the Donetsk region, or more than 70,000 people, have evacuated the area, whereas 8,700 people continue to live under shelling.
Russian troops are attempting to advance in the direction of Bakhmut and Avdiivka, whereas near Lyman, they are trying to improve their tactical position.
The Russian troops continue to focus their efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Bakhmut and Lyman directions, and hold the defense in the Novopavlivka and Kherson directions.
In recent days, the advance of the Russian troops in Bakhmut area has slowed down, although it is still too early to say whether the Russian offensive and their efforts to capture the town have reached a peak.
Russian propagandists are making attempts to persuade that a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Donetsk region’s city of Bakhmut was the so-called 'show' filmed in a pavilion.
During an unannounced trip to Donetsk region, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the military defending Bakhmut, visited the advanced positions of one of the brigades, heard a report on the operational developments, and presented state awards to soldiers.
Bakhmut has become another symbol of Ukraine's invincibility. Russia is trying to raze the city to the ground, sacrificing thousands of its soldiers to capture a few kilometres around the city since August.
