Bitcoin and Ether tumbled as the broader crypto market fell 3.3%, with reports of suspicious multibillion-dollar transfers from Binance-linked wallets fueling uncertainty. Cryptocurrency markets fell sharply Thursday as reports of a potential multibillion-dollar hack involving Binance wallets rattled investors, sending BNB down more than 7% and pushing the broader market lower. The selloff coincided with reports of suspicious transfers involving Binance-linked wallets. Blockchain security firm Blockaid identified approximately $3.3 billion in suspicious transfers, while Arkham Intelligence tracked roughly $5.84 billion in assets held by wallets labeled “binance-hacker-1029,” though neither figure represents a confirmed theft amount. Bitcoin lending and yield could drive next wave of institutional demand, Rootstock says

A new report argues that putting institutional Bitcoin holdings to work through lending, collateral and financing could create demand beyond its store-of-value role. A new report from Bitcoin infrastructure developer RootstockLabs argues that Bitcoin’s next wave of institutional demand could come from lending, yield generation and balance-sheet financing, expanding its role beyond a store of value. RootstockLabs estimates that just 1.5% of Bitcoin’s (BTC) supply currently participates in lending and Bitcoin-native finance, while identifiable institutional investors hold roughly 3.9 million BTC. Putting more of those holdings to work could create additional demand for the asset without changing its fixed supply. The analysis identifies two emerging sources of financial utility: generating r…

Fed’s hawkish rate hold keeps pressure on Bitcoin: Analysts

Traders are pricing in a 78% chance of a December rate hike, while analysts say Treasury yields, the US dollar and upcoming inflation data could determine Bitcoin’s next move. Bitcoin could face further headwinds after the US Federal Reserve held interest rates steady while signaling continued concern about inflation, according to market analysts. The Fed voted 10-2 Wednesday to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 3.75% to 4%, with Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack favoring a quarter-point increase. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh acknowledged that inflation remained above the central bank’s 2% target.

Google Cloud outlines MPC service for institutional Bitcoin custody

Google Cloud has detailed its preview MPC service for institutional Bitcoin custody as it holds a New York symposium focused on digital asset security. Google’s cloud computing division is progressing with a service that lets financial institutions jointly authorize and sign cryptocurrency transactions without giving any single party control over the full private key. Google Cloud detailed its Multi-party Compute (MPC) service in documentation updated Monday, positioning the preview product for institutional Bitcoin custody. The service remains in preview, meaning Google provides it as is, with potentially limited support. The documentation update preceded Google Cloud’s MPC Symposium, taking place Wednesday in New York. The event promises an “exclusive revealing of Google’s frontier MPC p…

Quantum fears already limiting Bitcoin’s growth, Stacks founder says

Speaking on Cointelegraph’s Chain Reaction podcast, Muneeb Ali warned that uncertainty over Bitcoin’s quantum security could deter institutional investors. Concerns about quantum computing are slowing institutional investment in Bitcoin, according to Stacks founder Muneeb Ali, who warned that the network needs a credible roadmap for security upgrades to restore investor confidence. “There is already a ceiling on the growth of Bitcoin because of quantum fears,” Ali said during an interview on Cointelegraph’s Chain Reaction podcast. He argued that uncertainty could lead risk-averse institutional investors to delay large Bitcoin purchases until developers establish a credible path toward quantum-resistant security. Stacks is a Bitcoin layer-2 network designed to bring smart contracts and dece…

AI agents help rescue ETH’s Glamsterdam fork, ‘Steal My Bitcoin’ site: Hodler’s Digest

Similar to the Hugging Face hack, Ethereum researchers have set up an AI Agent message board to help rescue the Glamsterdam fork. New site says ‘Steal My Bitcoin’... if you can. The second and final testnet for Ethereum’s Glamsterdam hard fork was cancelled this week, after ChainSecurity found vulnerabilities in two gas scaling Ethereum Improvement Proposals that could have spelled big trouble for at least 13 DeFi contracts. The bugs were connected to EIP-8037/8038 and resulted in contracts that rely on the way gas currently behaves, breaking when a call runs out of gas. It’s all fairly technical and complicated, but the upshot is that an attacker may have been able to exploit the resulting vulnerabilities. The hard fork testnet dress rehearsal on Hoodi is not expected to be rescheduled un…

Bitcoin hashrate hits seven-month high as AI shift fails to ease mining competition

According to BlocksBridge, Bitcoin’s mining difficulty is rising despite the industry’s AI transition, with smaller operators potentially absorbing equipment abandoned by larger competitors. Bitcoin’s network hashrate has climbed to a seven-month high despite major publicly traded miners shifting capacity toward artificial intelligence, suggesting other operators are replacing lost computing power and intensifying competition among remaining network miners. According to BlocksBridge Consulting’s latest Miner Weekly newsletter, Bitcoin’s seven-day average hashrate has recovered above 1 zettahash per second (ZH/s), equivalent to 1,000 exahashes per second (EH/s), its highest level since March 3. Hashrate measures the computing power securing the Bitcoin network. The recovery suggests that mi…
