KARACHI: Water supply to several parts of Karachi resumed in phases on Monday after electricity supply was resumed at the Dhabeji pumping station, around 22 hours after a power breakdown, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation spokesperson Abdul Qadir Shaikh told Dawn. The spokesperson said K-Electric (KE) had restored power supply to the pumping station at 7:20am on Monday, around 22 hours after a cable fault suspended the supply at 8:43am on Sunday. KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Sunday cautioned that parts of the metropolis might face disruption in water supply after a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station. The Dhabeji Pumping Station, the city’s primary water intake point, is highly dependent on uninterrupted electricity. Even brief outages result in immediate service disruptions. A technical team has reached the site to rectify the fault,” the spokesperson told Dawn. He added that three pumps at the Dhabeji pumping station had been temporarily shut down due to the fault, which was likely to affect water transmission to various parts of the metropolis. “The Corporation estimates a temporary shortfall of 75 million gallons per day in the city’s water supply due to the cable fault,” ...

Karachi could face a shortfall of 100 million gallons of water per day (MGD) due to a power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, which is expected to be fully repaired by tomorrow, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said on Sunday. The Dhabeji Pumping Station is a key pumping station operated by KWSC, Karachi’s sole water utility, that serves the city’s major areas. Past breakdowns at the facility have impacted supply to the East and Central districts, including areas like Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi and Korangi. In a statement today, a KWSC spokesperson said the “major” power breakdown in the second phase of the Dhabeji station was reported at 6:35am. “Due to the sudden power suspension, 72-inch line No. 5 has been affected, while four pumps of the phase shut down,” a later statement by the KWSC said, adding that the issue “severely damaged” the water supply system. “According to initial estimates, the city could face a shortage of 100 million gallons of water due to the pumps’ shutdow...
