RAWALPINDI: A nurse was booked by police for mistakenly chopping off the thumb of a newborn baby girl in the nursery ward of Rawalpindi Holy Family Hospital. Police investigating the incident said efforts were underway to trace and investigate the accused nurse, who had not been available so far. They said the exact circumstances in which the child’s thumb was cut off would be known after the investigation. Qasir Mehmood, the father of the child and a resident of Hassan Abdal, lodged an FIR with New Town police, stating that his 23-day-old daughter had been admitted to the Holy Family Hospital’s nursery ward for treatment after being born at the hospital. He said that when he visited his daughter on Thursday evening, he found that her right thumb had been cut off.
