  • Trump says China can buy Iranian oil, but urges it to purchase US crude
    Dawn - 06:22 Jun 25, 2025
United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that China can continue to purchase Iranian oil after Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, a move that the White House clarified did not indicate a relaxation of US sanctions. “China can now continue to purchase oil from Iran. Hopefully, they will be purchasing plenty from the US, also,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, just days after he ordered US bombings of three Iranian nuclear sites. Trump was drawing attention to no attempts by Iran so far to close the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers, as a closure would have been hard for China, the world’s top importer of Iranian oil, a senior White House official told Reuters. “The president continues to call on China and all countries to import our state-of-the-art oil rather than import Iranian oil in violation of US sanctions,” the official said. After the ceasefire announcement, Trump’s comments on China were another bearish signal for oil prices, which fell nearly 6 per cent on Tuesday. Any relaxation o...

Trump may issue an executive order to protect crypto firms from banking discrimination, ending what some call Operation Chokepoint 2.0, according to The Wall Street Journal. US President Donald Trump’s administration is reportedly considering an executive order aimed at preventing banks from cutting off services to politically unfavorable industries, including cryptocurrency firms, according to a Tuesday report from The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources. The move would come in response to allegations that some banks have denied services to tech and crypto entrepreneurs as part of a coordinated debanking campaign critics have dubbed “Operation Chokepoint 2.0.” At least 30 technology and cryptocurrency founders were reportedly denied access to banking services during the administration of former President Joe Biden. • Israel reports waves of Iranian missiles, soon after Trump announced ‘ceasefire’
    Dawn - 05:46 Jun 24, 2025
Israel’s military said Iran launched waves of missiles on Tuesday, with emergency services reporting four people killed, hours after US President Donald Trump announced a complete ceasefire between Israel and Iran to end a 12-day war. Witnesses said they heard explosions near Tel Aviv and Beersheba in southern Israel. Trump said on Tuesday a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was now in place and asked both countries not to violate it, only hours after Iran launched waves of missiles, which Israel’s ambulance service said killed four people. “The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it!” he said in a Truth Social post. Earlier, a senior White House official said Trump had brokered a ceasefire deal in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel...

The proposed bill from Senator Adam Schiff followed similar legislation in the House of Representatives from Maxine Waters in response to the president's memecoin dinner. California Senator Adam Schiff and nine other Democratic lawmakers have introduced legislation to prevent what they called “financial exploitation of digital assets” by the US president and other public officials. In a Monday announcement, Schiff and several Democratic senators said they had introduced the Curbing Officials’ Income and Nondisclosure, or COIN, Act, in response to US President Donald Trump’s connections to the cryptocurrency industry. The proposed legislation followed Trump’s disclosure of $57.4 million in income tied to World Liberty Financial (WLF), the crypto platform backed by members of his family. “President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency dealings have raised significant ethical, legal and constitutional concerns over his use of the office of the presidency to enrich himself and his family,” said Schiff. “That’s why I am ...

  • We will end this war, Iran warns ‘gambler’ Trump
    Dawn - 10:22 Jun 23, 2025
Iran said on Monday that the US attack on its nuclear sites expanded the range of legitimate targets for its armed forces and called US President Donald Trump a “gambler” for joining Israel’s military campaign against the Islamic Republic. Since Trump joined Israel’s campaign by dropping massive bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday morning, Tehran has repeatedly threatened to retaliate. But while it has continued to fire missiles at Israel, it has yet to take action against the United States itself, either by firing at US bases or by targeting the 20 per cent of global oil shipments that pass near its coast at the mouth of the Gulf. “Mr Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it,” Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central military headquarters, said on Monday in English at the end of a recorded video statement. Iran and Israel traded another wave of air and missile strikes on Monday as the world braced for Tehran’s response. Trump’...

  • Fazl, others urge govt to review decision to nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
    Dawn - 18:16 Jun 22, 2025
Pakistani politicians on Sunday raised their concerns over the government’s decision to recommend US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, as Washington joined Israel’s war with Iran. The government had decided to nominate Trump for the prestigious award to hail his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during last month’s Pak-India conflict, when both neighbours stepped back from the brink of war with US mediation. In a statement, it had highlighted that Trump “demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi”, which ultimately secured a ceasefire. However, after the US bombed Iran’s Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites, with Trump saying they were “totally obliterated”, leaders across the political spectrum joined Pakistani citizens in voicing their reservations. Veteran politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who heads his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), demanded that t...

  • Bitcoin in a post-Trump world worries hedge fund execs: Eric Semler
    Cointelegraph.com - 01:36 Jun 21, 2025
Eric Semler says he enjoys being the “lone voice crying in the wilderness” with Bitcoin as most hedge fund executives think Bitcoin is a “fly-by-night concept.” Eric Semler, chairman of healthcare tech firm Semler Scientific Inc., says many of his hedge fund peers are skeptical about Bitcoin’s future once US President Donald Trump leaves office. “I think that they think it is a fly-by-night concept and that it is probably going to, after the Trump administration, go back down a lot,” Semler told Coin Stories host Natalie Brunell on Thursday. Semler, who also founded hedge fund TCS Capital Management in 2001, made his comments amid skepticism within the crypto industry about how long political support for crypto will last after US President Donald Trump’s administration ends. While Trump recently signed off on a Bitcoin (BTC) Strategic Reserve, some, like JAN3 founder Samson Mow, are concerned that support may potentially unravel under a future president. Read more
