  • Solana vs Ethereum ETFs, Facebook’s influence on Bitwise: Hunter Horsley
    Cointelegraph.com - 13:20 Oct 29, 2025
Bitwise’s Hunter Horsley was stung by criticism from Ethereum Maxis about the firm’s support of Solana, as ETH helped inspire Bitwise in 2016 In the lead-up to this weeks surprise listing of its Solana Staking ETF on the New York Stock Exchange, Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley caused a stir by telling Cointelegraph that Solanas shorter validator exit queue gave it the edge over Ethereum in the staking ETF race. Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Houghan went much further on a podcast, praising Solanas speed, throughput and finality as extraordinarily attractive. He labelled it the new Wall Street. The glowing endorsements were controversial among Ethereum fans, some of who seemed to believe Bitwise was betraying ETHs cypherpunk values by championing other projects. Horsley was stung by the criticisms, not least because Ethereum was part of the inspiration for creating Bitwise in the first place. He replied he felt terrible to see these posts. We care a lot about Ethereum. Feedback received re recent commentary ...

    Cointelegraph.com - 19:53 Oct 28, 2025
A strong first-day haul positions Bitwise’s Solana fund as a test case for US appetite toward staking-based crypto ETFs after new SEC clarity. Investor appetite for staking-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States appears strong, with Bitwise’s new Solana product seeing substantial inflows on its first day of trading. The Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (BSOL), which began trading on Tuesday, has already attracted roughly $222.8 million in assets, according to Bloomberg Intelligence senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. • Crypto ‘got a passing grade’ on weekend crash: Bitwise’s Matt Hougan
    Cointelegraph.com - 13:04 Oct 15, 2025
Bitwise’s chief investment officer praised DeFi platforms for their resilience during the weekend fallout, calling the market’s recovery a sign of strength. The crypto market faced its biggest leveraged wipeout in history last weekend, but the turbulence won’t leave a lasting mark, according to Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan. In a Tuesday blog post, Hougan described the sharp drop as “a blip” and not a big deal. He added that crypto “got a passing grade” in its handling of the sell-off. “Many DeFi platforms performed flawlessly: Uniswap, Hyperliquid, Aave and others reported no losses,” he wrote, while noting that Binance and some other exchanges faced issues. “Taken together, crypto did as well or better than traditional markets would have done in the same situation,” he said. • Bitwise exec predicts Solana will become Wall Street’s preferred stablecoin network
    Cointelegraph.com - 01:56 Oct 05, 2025
Bitwise’s Matt Hougan said Solana’s speed and finality make it Wall Street’s top choice for stablecoins and tokenization despite Ethereum’s dominance. Chief investment officer of crypto asset management firm Bitwise, Matt Hougan, thinks Solana will be the Wall Street network of choice for stablecoins and real-world asset tokenization. “I think Solana is the new Wall Street,” said Hougan, speaking with Solana Foundation’s Akshay BD on Oct. 2. He added that the Wall Street audiences consider Bitcoin (BTC) “very ephemeral” and “hard to get their heads around.” They can see what is happening in the stablecoin and tokenization space, and they know that it is going to be “enormously significant,” he said before adding, “Really important people are saying that stablecoins will reinvent payments and tokenization will reinvent stock, bond, commodity, and real estate markets.” Read more
  • Solana may have an edge over Ethereum in staking ETFs, says Bitwise CEO
    Cointelegraph.com - 21:29 Oct 01, 2025
Bitwise’s Hunter Horsley says Solana’s shorter unstaking period gives it an advantage over Ethereum in the race for staking ETFs, as US regulators prepare key decisions in October. Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley says Solana may gain an edge over Ethereum in the staking exchange-traded fund (ETF) market, pointing to its design as more favorable for investors. Speaking with Cointelegraph editor Andrew Fenton at Token2049 in Singapore, Horsley argued that Solana’s quicker unstaking period gives it an advantage over Ethereum. For instance, Ethereum’s withdrawal queue recently reached new highs, while Solana’s typically clears faster. Horsley said that difference matters for issuers who must be able to return assets to investors quickly. “It’s a huge problem,” Horsley said. “The ETFs need to be able to return assets on a very short time frame. So this is a huge challenge.” Read more
  • Will Bitcoin hit $1.3M by 2035? Bitwise’s Matt Hougan explains his thesis
    Cointelegraph.com - 18:37 Sep 23, 2025
In an interview with Cointelegraph Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan outlines why Bitcoin could climb to over $1 million by 2035, pointing to Wall Street’s growing embrace of crypto. How high can Bitcoin really go? For Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, the answer might surprise even the most optimistic crypto bulls. In an in-depth conversation with Cointelegraph, Hougan laid out his long-term forecast for Bitcoin: $1.3 million per coin by 2035. Far from a wild guess, this projection is based on a detailed institutional report that models Bitcoin’s role as a store of value, its competition with gold, and the growing wave of institutional adoption. Hougan argues that three factors are converging to reshape Bitcoin’s trajectory: ballooning government debt, a regulatory climate that has turned from hostile to favorable, and the arrival of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which make it easier than ever for Wall Street to invest. • Bitwise files for stablecoin, tokenization ETF with US SEC
    Cointelegraph.com - 22:29 Sep 16, 2025
Bitwise’s Stablecoin & Tokenization ETF would track companies tied to stablecoins and tokenization sectors, as demand for onchain assets accelerates under new US rules. Bitwise filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch the “Stablecoin & Tokenization ETF,” an exchange-traded fund designed to track an index split between companies tied to stablecoins and tokenization. According to a Tuesday filing, the proposed ETF will track an index featuring companies from stablecoin issuers, infrastructure providers, payment processors, exchanges and retailers to regulated crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) with exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). The index, which will go through quarterly rebalances, is split into two equally weighted sleeves: an equity sleeve and a crypto asset sleeve, each making up half of the fund. The equity sleeve will focus on companies most directly tied to stablecoins and tokenization, while the crypto asset sleeve will provide exposure to blockchain infrastru...

  • Treasury companies solve Ether's narrative problem — Bitwise exec
    Cointelegraph.com - 21:15 Jul 30, 2025
Equity investment vehicles present ETH in a way that is palatable to investors in the legacy financial system, Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan says. Ether treasury and holding companies have solved Ethereum’s narrative problem by packaging the digital asset in a way that traditional investors understand, drawing in more capital and accelerating adoption, according to Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise. Hougan told Cointelegraph that Ethereum had struggled to define income-producing features for traditional financial investors until its native token, Ether (ETH), was packaged in an “equity-wrapper.” Hougan said: “But if you take $1 billion of ETH and you put it into a company and you stake it, all of a sudden, you're generating earnings. And investors are really used to companies that generate earnings,” he said. Read more
  • Bitcoin ‘up year’ is 2026, and the four-year cycle is dead: Bitwise exec
    Cointelegraph.com - 03:59 Jul 27, 2025
The Bitwise Invest executive admits he “could be wrong” but doesn’t see 2025 as the end of the upside for Bitcoin. Bitcoin’s price could see significant upside in 2026, bucking the traditional four-year market cycle, according to Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan. The prediction comes as other analysts are divided on whether Bitcoin (BTC) will stray from its historical pattern or follow the traditional halving cycle and peak in the coming months. “I bet 2026 is an up year,” Hougan said in an X video on Friday. “I broadly think we’re in for a good few years,” Hougan added. • SEC delays in-kind redemption decision for Bitwise crypto ETFs
    Cointelegraph.com - 12:13 Jul 17, 2025
The US SEC has extended its decision deadline on whether to allow in-kind redemptions for Bitwise’s spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs on NYSE Arca. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) extended its deadline for ruling on in-kind redemptions for two separate crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to a Wednesday SEC filing, the regulator will take more time to decide whether to allow in-kind redemptions on NYSE Arca for Bitwise’s Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) spot ETFs. The time limit for the decision was extended, but the underlying limit remains “45 days, extendable to no more than 90.” “The Commission finds it appropriate to designate a longer period within which to take action on the proposed rule change so that it has sufficient time to consider the proposed rule change, and the issues raised therein,” the announcement read. • Bitwise adds in-kind redemptions to DOGE, APT ETF filings
    Cointelegraph.com - 22:03 Jun 26, 2025
Over 70 crypto exchange-traded funds are awaiting review from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Bitwise has amended its proposed Dogecoin and Aptos exchange-traded funds to include in-kind redemptions, according to filings on Thursday. The updates come as discussions around altcoin ETFs and redemption structures gain traction with US regulators. In-kind redemptions allow investors to exchange ETF shares directly for the underlying tokens. The mechanism is considered more tax-efficient and can appeal to all types of investors, from institutional to retail. In February, the SEC sought comments on a proposal to allow in-kind creations and redemptions for spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) ETFs. During a panel at the Bitcoin Policy Institute on Wednesday, US Securities and Exchange (SEC) Commissioner Hester Pierce said in-kind redemptions for crypto ETFs are on the horizon. Read more
