Israeli authorities have arrested and indicted two people for allegedly using secret information to place bets on the predictions market Polymarket related to Israel striking Iran. In a joint statement on Thursday, Israel’s Defense Ministry, its internal security service Shin Bet, and police said a military reservist and a civilian were arrested after an investigation found that the reservist obtained classified information to place the bets. The prosecutor’s office will pursue criminal charges for security-related offenses, bribery, and obstruction of justice. Authorities said the reservist was working for Shin Bet. Read more

    Israel crypto industry pushes regulatory changes amid strong public supportReform of Israel's digital asset regulations may add 70,000 jobs and $38 billion to the country's GDP, according to KPMG. The Israeli Crypto Blockchain & Web 3.0 Companies Forum last week launched a lobbying effort to push regulatory reforms that research from KPMG says may add 120 billion shekels ($38.36 billion) to the country’s economy by 2035 and create 70,000 new jobs. At a Feb. 3 event in Tel Aviv, Forum leader Nir Hirshman-Rub said there is broad public support for legislation that would relax rules on stablecoins and tokenization, along with simplifying tax compliance requirements. In the wake of the US-brokered ceasefire of the Gaza war, 2026 is seen as a “defining year” for the local digital assets industry, Hirshman-Rub said. Read more

    Iran crypto flows dropped 11% so far this year to July, amid conflict with Israel, a $90 million hack on local crypto exchange Nobitex and Tether freezing 42 wallets. Flows into Iranian crypto trading platforms have fallen in 2025 due to a breakdown in nuclear negotiations with Israel, a $90 million hack on Iran’s largest crypto exchange, and a major stablecoin blacklisting, says blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs. Iranian crypto flows hit $3.7 billion between January and July, an 11% decrease compared to the same period last year, with the worst drop off coming in June and July, TRM Labs said in a report on Tuesday. Iran’s crypto flows started to sharply drop in June, just after the $90 million hack on Nobitex, which handles 87% of the country’s crypto transactions.  Read more
