    The Trust Wallet update includes a feature to help victims of the $7 million Christmas hack submit reimbursement claims for lost funds. The Trust Wallet browser extension for Google Chrome Web Store is “temporarily unavailable,” delaying the release of a new version that includes tools for victims of a recent hack, according to Trust Wallet CEO Eowyn Chen.  “We hit a Chrome Web Store bug while releasing a new version,” Chen said in an X post, adding that the delayed release includes a feature to help victims of the Christmas Day hack verify and submit their reimbursement claims.     Trust Wallet said it has identified 2,596 compromised addresses following its Christmas Day exploit as investigators work to separate real victims from false claims. Trust Wallet has moved into a verification phase after a Christmas Day exploit involving its browser extension; while thousands of wallets have been identified, the company has received far more reimbursement claims than expected. On Monday, Trust Wallet CEO Eowyn Chen said the company had identified 2,596 wallet addresses tied to the compromised extension. Still, it has received almost 5,000 claims, suggesting a significant amount may be false or duplicate submissions.  “Because of this, accurate verification of wallet ownership is critical to ensure funds are returned to the right people,” Chen wrote. “Our team is working diligently to verify claims; combining multiple data points to distinguish legitimate victims from malicious actors.” Read more

    The malicious Trust Wallet extension has also been exporting users’ personal information, pointing to potential insider activity, according to cybersecurity company SlowMist. Trust Wallet users lost about $7 million in a Christmas Day exploit that had been planned since early December. Trust Wallet’s browser extension version 2.68 was compromised by a security incident impacting desktop users, Trust Wallet said in a Thursday X post; it advised users to upgrade to version 2.89.   • Kraken taps Trust Wallet to expand Backed xStocks’ tokenized equities

    While Kraken said that the partnership opens up stocks for 200 million users, others said that geographical restrictions exist. Crypto exchange Kraken, the main distribution partner for Backed’s tokenized equities product xStocks, has partnered with Trust Wallet, one of the world’s largest self-custody crypto wallets, to extend the reach of tokenized equities to users.  In a Friday announcement, Kraken said it is “bringing interoperable tokenized equities to over 200 million users across the world” by extending xStocks to Trust Wallet users, who will be able to trade tokenized equities by Backed, a provider of collateralized onchain assets.  The integration will allow Trust Wallet users to buy and hold 60 different xStocks using a variety of local fiat currencies. It would also enable deposits and withdrawals across multiple chains, including Solana, BNB Chain, Tron and Ethereum.  Read more
