Environmental problems can be solved through the adoption of green technologies. Since 2019, Viva-MTS and the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) have been actively engaged in targeted projects in this area. In biodiversity-rich habitats, unexpected encounters with wild animals can occur. To assist farmers in such communities, the partner organizations have been leveraging green technologies, such as electric fences. In a recent initiative, a new set of electric fences was provided to communities in Vayots Dzor, aiming to facilitate the peaceful coexistence of humans and wildlife. The event saw the participation of key figures including Viva-MTS General Director Armen Avetisian, Director of the FPWC Ruben Khachatryan, as well as representatives from the regional and community administrations. Each of the 20 specialized electric fences is capable of monitoring a 1-hectare area. The urgency of this solution is underscored by the stark realities faced in the region. Recent year...

North Korea has sent more than 150 balloons carrying trash across the inter-Korean border, Seoul's military said Wednesday, after the North warned of "tit-for-tat action" against anti-Pyongyang leaflets flown by the South's activists. Since Tuesday night, the balloons have crossed the border to fall in various locations across the country, reaching as far as the southeastern province of South Gyeongsang, and scatter waste as they fell to the ground, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). The fallen balloons appeared to have carried various pieces of trash, such as plastic bottles, batteries, shoe parts and even manure, a JCS official said, with military officials collecting the objects for a detailed analysis. "These acts by North Korea clearly violate international law and seriously threaten our people's safety," the JCS said. "(We) sternly warn North Korea to immediately stop its inhumane and vulgar act." On Sunday, North Korea said it will scatter "mounds of wastepaper and filth" over the border ar...

How to live in a village with rich biodiversity where you face the challenge of wildlife conservation and rural development? Vayots Dzor is one of the regions with such rich biodiversity where encounters with wild animals are commonplace. Seeing a bear every day has become usual especially in Shatin. Bears wander into different parts of the village at any time of the day and after each of their “visits” farmers have to assess the damage caused by them. The residents have become more cautious; however, they know they need to conserve the nature and not cause any harm to animals even if they suffer some losses. Over the years, Viva-MTS and the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets have conducted numerous projects aiming to reduce human-wildlife conflict. This is a relevant and important issue from the perspective of eco-village development as well. Attaching great importance to nature conservation and rural development, the partner organizations launched a project to introduce electr...
